Bundles of Pretty Place Cards

Bundles of Pretty Place Cards

I moved to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina in late 2015. I’m still doing calligraphy full time (yay!), but I don’t have many local clients so 99% of my jobs are shipped. I’m now a pro at packaging up jobs and shipping them out via UPS. Did you know packages shipped via UPS Ground arrive next day within NC, SC, VA; and only two days from NC to NYC?!

Here are photos of pretty place cards that I’ve bundled with ribbon…all ready to be wrapped in tissue and packaged snuggly in boxes.

Tented Escort Cards

Tented Escort Cards

Traditional tented escort cards are perfect for all types of wedding receptions, formal & informal. Table assignments can be written on the front of the card or inside the card, along the bottom edge.

For place cards & escort cards, I always recommend using first & last names only (no titles). The names are easier to balance on the cards, and I think the cards are more pleasing to the eye. Excluding titles is not considered less formal, and it’s easier for guests to find their names without the addition of titles.

“Fancy Script” is my most popular writing style. Pretty but not stuffy, and easy to read! Perfect for formal and informal invitations alike…a country club wedding or a backyard BBQ rehearsal dinner. (Affordable too, y’all.)

Vintage Postcards as Escort Cards? Yes!

Vintage Postcards as Escort Cards? Yes!

One of my lovely bridal clients collected over 90 unique antique postcards from the early 1900s to use as her escort cards!  I didn’t mess up any…whew!  (Aren’t they wonderful?)

Thank you to Viva L’Event for the display photos below.   As guests arrived for the ceremony, the postcards were displayed so that the colorful pictures faced out.  The postcards were flipped after the ceremony so that guests could locate their names and table assignments.  I love this idea.

Blue & Pink? I love it!

Blue & Pink? I love it!

Fran was one of my out-of-town clients & we communicated via email, so I’ve never met her in person.  I guessed early on that Fran was super friendly and very excited to be getting married (she used a lot of exclamation points in her emails….I do too).  Both of us use smiley face emoticons, so we really hit it off!  I was honored to address Fran’s wedding invitations, and I also did Fran’s escort cards & the labels for the candy buffet at her wedding reception.

When I saw Fran’s wedding pictures (by Bella Rose Photography), I fell in love with the vibrant mix of blue & pink.  Fran gave me permission to post my favorite photographs here on my blog.  I hope you enjoy them.

The following photos are from Fran’s pink & blue candy buffet!  (I wrote the labels in my “curly contempo” writing style…in pink ink, of course!)

Below is a photo of Fran’s escort card display.  The table assignments were written on the back.  I love how Fran smoothly incorporated rustic elements into her blue & pink theme.  (I wrote Fran’s escort cards in my “fancy script” writing style.)

Don’t you love Fran’s rustic willow branch display?

How about these precious wee ones dancing at Fran’s reception?  (Keeping the blue & pink theme!)

In this photo of the sparkler send-off (I love it!), you can see the beautiful shade of blue of the bridesmaids’ dresses – and the gorgeous pink bouquets!

Trick or Treat? Yes, please!

Trick or Treat? Yes, please!

I love this time of year…sweater weather, colorful mums, hot cider and, of course, Halloween!

I’ve created some Halloween-themed envelopes, chalkboards, place cards & signs.  Enjoy!

And here’s my favorite Halloween project this season….a GIANT chalkboard (4′ x 3′).  My daughter Hannah (a professional illustrator) sketched out the skeleton for me (took her, like, 5 minutes!)

“Fancy Script”? My Most Popular Writing Style!

“Fancy Script”? My Most Popular Writing Style!

This post spotlights my most popular writing style…

Fancy Script - Calligraphy by Carrie

I think my “Fancy Script” is a favorite with my clients because it is so versatile.  I can write this style with extra flourishes, regular flourishes or minimal flourishes….in any ink color (bold, medium, fine, extra fine).  My “Fancy Script” works equally great on oversized wedding invitation envelopes as well as teeny-tiny save-the-date envelopes.  The style is easy to read, yet pretty. Elegant, but not stuffy.  It looks like a real person’s handwriting & feels personal.

Here is my “Fancy Script” with LOTS of flourishes!

My "Fancy Script" with extra flourishes - Calligraphy by Carrie

Some clients prefer minimal flourishes – and I’m happy to oblige!

My “Fancy Script” style can be modified to complement a particular font.  In the photo below, you can see the modified letter “d”….pretty!

"Fancy Script" writing style - with modified lower case 'd'

The style works great in all colors of ink, including metallics:

Only certain opaque inks will adhere to shimmer envelopes; most inks will smear with the slightest touch.  My “Fancy Script” writing style can be easily written with opaque paint pens…smudgeproof & waterproof on shimmer envelopes.

“Fancy Script” looks great on place cards, escort cards & signs.  It can be written small or bold…

How about these pretty place cards in taupe “Fancy Script”?

And…”Fancy Script” looks pretty on reception signage (chalkboards, mirrors, paper….!)

Even my apprentice Hitch is partial to “Fancy Script”….

What’s New Now? These Writing Styles!

What’s New Now? These Writing Styles!

Howdy y’all!  (I even say “all y’all” from time to time……I was definitely born & raised in the South.)

I recently tried something new for a client…writing my “Fancy Script” style with a traditional calligraphy pen (not a monoline gel pen).  I like this look!

A client asked if I could do my Contempo writing style “larger & looser.”  Why, yes I can!   “Freestyle Contempo”…

As a Breaking Bad fan I created this “Cracked Ice” writing style awhile ago….it hasn’t taken off with my clients (I can’t understand why….)
